Kogin

Kogin Embrodiery

What is Kogin?
Kogin is a traditional Japanese stitching technique that was born in Northern area of Japan hundreds years ago. Kogin is one of the Sashiko stitching techniques.

The ladies of farmer families stitched with cotton thread in order to retain heat well and to strengthen linen fabric. Furthermore, based on their lifestyle, they have developed a lot of unique designs which are symmetric and combined with a couple of basic patterns. Their basic patterns are so simple but their combinations can create elegant and beautiful designs on the fabric.

The stitching is also simple. It is usually made only in the weft direction of the fabric.
Nowadays, we can have a fun of Needle-play with Kogin-stitching.

In 2015 we will be offering a Kogin class, watch the newsletter for further details.
